Narrabri’s perfect dilemma

Narrabri’s perfect dilemma

The Northern Daily Leader Julie Maughan 2 Mar 2017, 11:44 a.m

Narrabri will feature harness racing again this Sunday with their big Carnival of Cups meeting presenting an eight race program.

Rubbers Dilemma from the Tony Missen stables will make a return in the opening event after the filly scored her first career win last week at Narrabri from six race starts. The win surprised Missen who trains the Blissful Hall filly – and races her along with Alan Tinden, Tamworth HRC Board member Greg McDonell and Bob Peterson – as the filly had only been in the stables for two weeks.

Readily and able to win well

ulie Maughan 27 Feb 2017, 1 p.m

Readily picked up his second win this month in taking out the G & K Anderson/Agies Rural Wee Waa Cup at the Narrabri harness meeting on Sunday.

Trained by Lola Weidemann and driven by her niece Stacey, it was a big day out for the stable, having ten runners competing at the meeting.

Lola trained four winners on the seven event card as well as driving two winners in Hero Bromac and Rocknroll Annie while Stacey also drove a double - which included a win in the feature with Readily – while Royal Luck made his way into the John Dean Memorial next Sunday at Narrabri after taking out the first heat.

Former Narrabri jockey Tim Bell killed in Singapore

Former Narrabri jockey Tim Bell killed in Singapore

Former Tamworth apprentice Tim Bell has been killed in a non-racing related accident in Singapore.

The Narrabri-raised jockey, who was pursuing a three-month riding contract in Singapore, was killed after reportedly falling from a high-rise building.

Bell, 22, started his apprenticeship with Sue Grills at Tamworth and was leading apprentice in NSW in his first two seasons with more than 170 winners, Racenet reports.

Two weeks ago he won his first Singapore major, the $150,000 Group 3 El Dorado Classic (2200m) riding stayer Sebrose.

Michelle Payne creates history with 100-1 win in Cup

Michelle Payne creates history with 100-1 win in Cup

Story Courtesy - Sunshine Coast Daily

UPDATE: MICHELLE Payne has created history at the 2015 Melbourne Cup by winning on outsider Prince of Penzance.

Payne was the only female jockey in the race and her horse was a $101 to 1 shot - only the fourth of such long odds to win the race.

"I can't believe it! The most funny thing is that my sister, Margaret, and I both had a feeling that I was going to win and I actually had a really strong feeling I was going to win,'' Payne said.

"But I thought, "Oh, don't be stupid, it's the Melbourne Cup" and it turned out exactly how I thought it would!
