Foundation for Rural and Regional Renewal

Like most people, the FRRR team is certainly having a busy run right to the end of the year! It's a heady mix of assessing grants and planning for the New Year.

In November, FRRR and Schools Plus co-hosted a joint meeting of the Philanthropy Australia Rural and Education Funder Groups. We presented the outcomes of a research collaboration between FRRR, Schools Plus, Myer Foundation and VFFF, with the support of skilled volunteers from Origin Foundation. We shared data to build a collective picture of what rural schools and non-profits are seeking support for and where grants are being directed, in an effort to better understand the issues and needs in rural education and the contribution being made by the philanthropic sector.

PREMIER’S FUND FOR SOCIAL COHESION

PREMIER’S FUND FOR SOCIAL COHESION

Grants and Funding

The Premier’s Fund for Social Cohesion is a small grants program that supports community-led events and activities that bring together people from diverse cultural backgrounds to discuss and celebrate diversity. It aims to build on the strengths of our multicultural society, develop stronger social cohesion and community resilience, particularly among young people (aged 12-25), and to inspire young people to stand up against the divisive forces of fear, hate and violence.

The Fund’s strategic priorities are to:

Encourage people to reflect on and celebrate the role of diversity in society
Promote intercultural and interfaith understanding, particularly among young people
Build positive cross-cultural networks
Empower people to speak about the value of diversity in society and to counter hateful and divisive messages

Incubator Event Fund

Part of the Flagship funding

On 6 July 2016, the NSW Government announced that the Regional Flagship Events Program would be expanded to include two new funds in addition to the existing marketing support fund. The name “Regional Flagship Events Program” will remain as the umbrella title under which the three funds will sit:

  • Incubator Event Fund - supports the establishment of new events (see terms and conditions)
  • Flagship Event Fund -  supports the marketing of emerging events to increase their profile and encourage visitation (see terms and conditions). N.B.: Expressions of interest for the 2017 Flagship Event Fund have now closed.
  • Event Development Fund – supports the strategic development of proven flagship events as drivers of tourism.

NSW Seniors Festival Grants

NSW Seniors Festival Grants

‘The NSW Government has allocated $200,000 seed funding for community groups, volunteer organisations and local councils to host events during the 2017 NSW Seniors Festival.

The NSW Seniors Festival, which will be held from Friday 3 March to Sunday 12 March 2017, is the largest festival for seniors in the Southern Hemisphere with over 500,000 seniors participating in events across NSW last year.

Seniors Festival grants support local councils, volunteer groups and community organisations with the costs of developing and hosting events and activities in their local communities.

The grants are a great way for local organisations to get involved and show their appreciation for seniors and encourage them to actively participate in their local community.

There are two funding categories available in 2017:

Grants of up to $1,000 to deliver local events or activities in their communities,
Grants from $1,001 to $5,000 for larger events which focus on this year’s theme.
